The Dunham Technique: A Way of Life

This course will introduce students to basic issues and key concepts of Katherine Dunham’s technique, theories, and philosophies, as well as her research methods and pedagogy. Focusing on her performances as a theoretical, practical, and embodied experience, students will explore Dunham’s approach to dance making through the awareness of the broader meaning of dance within particular socio-political contexts.
